Committee Reports
Community Service:  Jan Hence said Rotarians can now sign-up to volunteer at Hill Cumorah this summer.  We need two more workers from 4-6 P.M. on May 10 for the Mobile Pantry.  She asked Rotarians to bring items in for the Rotary Auction on June 24, and for the Backpack Program in May.

Gail Chambers asked everyone not going to the District Conference to sign-up to volunteer at Community Pride Day.  Please get a poster from Gail to post in your business.

Interact: Holly Kreuser said Honor Flight was great and the kids were moved.  Last week’s interact meeting explored India and included Indian Food.  Interact is winding down their year.

Camp Onseyawa:  Marge said the camp’s Golf Tournament is coming up.  She said anyone can make a donation without going to the fundraiser as well.  We need $100 more per camper this year, so we are in need of more fundraising.

Sonnenberg Gardens sent us a thank-you for our donation as a club in memory of Malcolm O’Malley.

Jim Praino just got back from a trip to Northern Europe.  He went to get a Volvo, but traveled all around and even visited a past exchange student he hosted.

Hannelora Reinhardt learned that Fred Hicks lost his brother recently.

Queen of Hearts: President Quartaro won the raffle but not the drawing.
Last Week's Program
The Newark Rotary Club presented the Wayne Newark Hospital’s Baby and Me Tobacco Free Program with a large $30,000 check—the result of three years of fundraising by the club. The program’s director, Carolyn Scroggins then discussed the program.  The goal of this program is to decrease the burden of tobacco use on our society.  The objective is to reduce the use. She said 24.5% of Wayne County adults are smokers, which is higher than the state rate (15.6%).  Over 40% of the moms at the Newark hospital have used tobacco in the past or presently use it.  Babies of smokers have a higher likelihood of early births and abnormally low birth weight.  A study of this program nationwide found that program enrollees use 63% less tobacco during pregnancy.
