Thomas Muscolino works at AECC. He is interested in joining Rotary because of our community service and "camaraderie." He plans to participate in committees, functions, and fund raising events. He is sponsored by Joseph VanHaelst.
President Karen Quartaro called the meeting to order on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 12:05 pm at the American Legion. Kirk Baker led the invocation and pledge. Adam Olschewske was the Sgt. at Arms.
Doug Forgue discussed his mother's recent heart attack and said she is on the mend. Dave Hannan said Tom Craig has a brain tumor. According to President Quartaro he has a Go Fund Me account set up so that anyone can donate and help him pay for his treatment (which is not covered by insurance). Michele McMannus said friends of her son (Newark Grads) recently gave birth prematurely to a baby that was due in April. She asked everyone to keep the family in their prayers. John Capozzi said his son is doing much better after his battle with an infected intestine. Graham Tedesco-Blair said he recently lost a close friend to cancer.
Community Service: Jan Hence reminded everyone to sell raffle tickets and thanked everyone who has already sold them. She reminded the club that Park Church is hosing Martin Luther King, Jr. events on Monday, January 16.
Fellowship: Michele McManus passed around and discussed a fellowship activity survey. She asked everyone to fill it out and get it back to her.
Membership: Kevin Mooney said all District Assembly team leaders will meet at the American Legion next week. They still need volunteers for the District Assembly Meeting--he asked everyone to sign-up.
PR: Graham took this opportunity to ask everyone to support the Spelling Bee on behalf of his wife who works for Literacy Volunteers.
Foundation: Fred Hicks said we are almost to $10,000. Please give if you haven’t.
Interact: Holly Kreuser said the Interact club held their first meeting of the year last week. They have many exciting projects planned including a Family Fun Literacy event at the Alex Eligh Center in February, an Honor Flight event, and a pen-pale program. She said that Newark is hosting a training for outbound students on Saturday, January 21st.
