Last Week’s Program
Marc Sheldon introduced Bill Parker from Seneca Falls Rotary.  Marc and his wife, Marsha, met Bill and fellow Rotarian, Dave Markel, at the Wine and Jazz Festival in September.  While at the festival, Marc and Marsha saw the display on the Malawi Children's Village project that the Seneca Falls Rotary Club is involved with and led by Bill and Dave.  Bill worked at Goulds Pumps as VP of Operations for 17 years.  He worked in Europe for 3 years and lived in London across from Kensington Palace.  Bill has been retired since 1999.  He joined Rotary and became involved in the Malawi project 7 years ago.  The Malawi Children's Village was started by Kevin Denny and Mr. Sibale in the late 1990's as a place to care for orphan children.  Today they have schools for grades K - 12 and a vocational school for sewing, carpentry, masonry, mechanic training and agriculture training.  There are 37 villages around the Milawi Children's Village and Seneca Falls Rotary project is irrigation for these villages.  They hired a local man, Dyson, as their on-site irrigation expert and today they have 16 irrigation sites.  The villages are now producing vegetables.  They have also refit their Machine Shop and Woodworking Shop with new equipment.  They have also supplied medical supplies to their clinic, with the support of Clifton Springs Hospital.  The sinks at the medical clinic have all been replaced in partnership with Clifton Springs Rotary.
