Newark RISE

Newark Rotary Club Bulletin

WELCOME VISITORS

Dave Hannan introduced Suliyman from Istanbul who joined us on zoom.  He will be helping us on our Water Project and a Dialysis machine.

WELLNESS REPORT

Scott Healy reported that his daughter’s family all tested positive for Covid and had to drive home from Disney World in Florida - now quarantining for 2 weeks.

Mitch Ruffalo reported that he was able to talk with Helmuth Reinhardt.  His back is gradually feeling better.  His attitude is great!  He and Hannelora wish a Merry Christmas to all.

HEALTHY MOMENT

Grace Norcott suggests we try to eat healthy holiday food, avoiding fast food stops.  If you are in a work setting you may want to skip the break room.  On the other hand, if the traditional baking of cookies (and eating a few) brings you joy, your emotional health is worth as much as your physical!

BAD DAD JOKES

FROM MARYJO FENYN

Who is Santa’s favorite singer?   Elf-is Presley

What do snowmen eat for breakfast?   Frosted Flakes

Who is Frosty’s favorite Aunt?   Aunt Artica

FROM JEAN BENIX

What do you call a computer that sings?  A dell

FROM PAUL SALISBURY

If you eat well and get lots of sleep - exercise and drink lots of water

you’ll die anyway!

OPEN THE WINE

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Gary Reilly thanked Marc for posting our events on our Website.

Melissa Corriea’s Membership Committee has revised the membership program to fill the gap for new member sponsors.  Please read the description on your e-mail.

President Donna delivered the presents to the girls at the Harriet Tubman House in Auburn following last week’s meeting.

HAPPY MOMENTS

Holly Kreuser was happy to announce Ryan’s achieving a 4.0 average - with plans to become an Art therapist,

Mitch Ruffalo added that he is also proud of Ryan having worked with him as an Eagle Scout.  He works part time for Ruffalo’s where he SHINES and acts as a great role model.  “He is a special young man”.

Bob Bendix loves his new gas range from Ruffalo’s Appliance - Mitch will pay a fine for that!

Mike Muscolino is happy to finally have a new pet.  The puppy , a Jack Russell/beagle, is very attached to Sue but Mike woke up the other morning to find ‘Sammy’ had sneaked under the covers to snuggle with HIM!

Grace Norcott was happy to watch her five year old grandson Richie enjoying the Christmas light show set to music.  He especially liked the Nativity Scene.

Pat Albrecht was happy to report that our Laurel House Director, Laci Graham, has a heart of gold.  When a man came to the door with tears in his eyes, she could not turn him away.  His wife was dying in the hospital where he was not allowed to be with her.  She knew the plans to paint could wait.

Jean Bendix is enjoying the neighborhood cats, including her own Napoleon - the Mayor of Bailey Lane.  If you are Facebook Friends with Pat you can keep up with the escapades of ‘Sherm’.

SPEAKERS - SALVATION ARMY

Ann Rogers is the co-ordinator for the Salvation Army Bell Ringers.  She introduced our speakers Ann Vail and Sam Reader.  Ann and Sam may not be Rotarians, but they live by our Rotary Code.

Ms Rock, the commander’s wife joined us on zoom.  She praised Rotary as a great supporter of the Salvation Army.  She thanked us for living up to our Service above Self motto and being great partners.

In Newark, Pastor Della at the Emmanuel Methodist Church and the High School nurse are 2 people who give out vouchers.

Ann still needs ringers for Christmas Eve.

Remember - money raised in Newark stays in Newark!

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING

TREASURER Kevin Mooney reported that Covid raised havoc with our budget.  The  good news is we have more fundraisers planned and we are able to PAY OUR BILLS.

Norma thanked Kevin for the detailed printout explaining our money status.

SECRETARY is Jeff Patchen.  His motto this year is ADAPT, OVERCOME or IMPROVISE.  Due to the pandemic our attendance has dropped 21%.  August was our high attendance month on zoom.
