President Donna had the (honor?) of representing Gary Reilly and his BAD JOKES in his absence.
I miss the 90’s when bread was good for you, and no one knew what kale was.

SPEAKERS - ‘LOST BOYS OF SOUTH SUDAN’
Jean Bendix introduced our speakers, Sebastian and Judy Schwartz who joined us via zoom. Sebastian is the Co-founder of ‘Building minds’ in South Sudan. Judy is a teacher and the Chairperson for ‘Building Minds’.
With $1000 they are able to build and furnish 4 classrooms. The fathers in South Sudan do not want their daughters to attend school with boys. Consequently an all girls school was established. Sebastian remarked that “It’s GIRLS who educate a community”.
We were touched watching a video with our own Linda Werts passing out pencils to the long line of children in Sudan.
Sebastian was also instrumental in making sure the girls had a woman principal who would protect the girls and set an example of what women can accomplish.
Judy Schwartz told of the days before the schools were built where boys sat here and there under trees in 110 degree temperatures. They had no water, no lunches and may have walked 8 miles to get there.
Linda mentioned that more money could come from Presbyterian Women(Linda wears many hats). Sebastian said they are in need of more women teachers. They require a Masters degree and could teach all subjects.
Sebastian described Linda as “MY HERO”. Ask Linda sometime about her experiences in South Sudan and TRYING to leave when a war broke out!
Jean wants to meet Sebastian’s wife - you know “behind every successful man...”
Next week our speaker will be Mary Jane Milano from Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network.
