wELLNESS REPORT

We were happy to see Sharon SanAngelo and Pat Albrecht feeling better and joining Michele McManus for our Rotary Zoom meeting.

Michele gave us the sad news of Ed Fenyn’s passing.  We can all send cards of condolence to MaryJo. We are waiting for calling hour and funeral arrangements.

Bob Bendix announced that Jean Willliams will be our new Wellness liaison this year.

healthy moment

Grace Norcott had words of wisdom for us this week in our on going attempt to stay healthy physically and mentally. Especially during the pandemic we are reminded that connection is why we are all here and without it we are suffering.  We must be creative in finding ways to connect.  It takes energy to show up for life - start by “showing up”!

Grace has a blog you might want to visit at Gracenorcott.com.

joke of the week

Gary Reilly, AKA ‘The Joker’, shared another winner with us this week.  Why wouldn’t you want to go to a restaurant on the moon?  The food might be great but there is no atmosphere!

DON’T BE SHY!

diversity in fundraising

Given the current restrictions on gatherings we need a fundraiser that does not require a social gathering.  President Donna has creatively come up with what she calls the “Premier Sponsor Program”.  To be eligible as a Premier Sponsor of the Newark Rotary Club, you can be an individual, a business, a non-profit org., or you can enroll as a memorial to a loved one who has passed.  Premier Sponsors will give $250 for the Rotary year to help fund our service projects, grants and scholarships.

You will be receiving an e-mail with an enrollment form.  You can also enroll and pay online on the club website.

Our first Premier Sponsor is Kevin Mooney

Donna Johnson is participating as an individual, as an employee of LNB  and as a family.

The following members at last weeks meeting agreed to be sponsors - Gary and Norma Reilly, Correias, Peter Blandino, Bob and Jean Bendix, Steve and Lucina Hallagan, Marc and Holly Kreuser, Peter and Patty Dohr - raising $2,500 so far.

Happy Moments

Lucina Hallagan was happy to be able to zoom with her grandson in California on his birthday.  He usually comes for the summer.  Her son who lives in Brooklyn will be able to visit in person.

Holly and Marc have recently returned from a vacation in the Outer Banks. Their daughter Grace attends the University of Vermont - she recently received a full scholarship for her remaining 3 years through her participation in ROTC.

Speaker - Robin Marks

Steve Hallagan introduced Robin Marks who is the Board President and the Business Manager for Camp Onseyawa.  She is a member of the Ontario Rotary.  She recognized Dave Hannan, Norma and Gary Reilly, Bob Goodman and Marge Gile as some or the Newark Rotarians who have been involved with the camp.  Through a power point presentation we learned about the history of the camp which started in 1955.  The camp is for 8-16 year olds with disabilities where they learn independence and acceptance.

The camp is located on Seneca Lake, the name (ONSEYAWA) referring to the 22 rotary clubs located in Ontario, Seneca, Yates and Wayne county.

Activities include nature hikes, fishing, boating, cookouts, ceramics, music activities and camping.  Gary Reilly is the Board Director.  Norma is planning a staff appreciation dinner.  They meet at the Clifton Springs Hospital. There is NO FEE for the campers.  The camp relies on donations, the United Way and club sponsors.

The Newark Club most recently has been involved in the teardown and the Carnival.

This year they will attempt a Virtual Camp from 10-2 each day for 2 weeks.
