September 2026

President Dave's Message

Summer seems to have faded away rather quickly but before I highlight our September events, let me first thank all of our Rotarians for the support they each provided in some unique way to make our largest fundraiser of the year, the Family Festival, the success that it was. Rotarians are an amazing people who unselfishly give of themselves. Sometimes they do this through organizational skills and leadership and sometimes it is through physical work, other times it is through financial support, but in many cases it is all three or a combination of the three and this is what makes our Club so great.

It is too early to come up with exact financial figures on the Family Fest but when we do I will publish them in my message. However, what we do know is the weather was picture perfect on the day of the Festival and the attendance was very good. Just prior to the close of the event, I spoke with each Food Vendor who all seemed pleased with their sales and asked to come back next year. Additionally, I spoke with Heidi Stowell who coordinates the Craft Vendors for “shopping for a cause” and she reported some very happy vendors with no disappointments.

Our Silent Auction was a huge success (thank you Michele) and grossed the highest amount of money to date. Unfortunately, Michele McManus has asked to take a break from the Silent Auction so we are actively looking for a new Chair Person. Please see Michele if you have some interest in this most beneficial fund raiser.

The FLX Satellite Club made their debut at the Festival with a Dunk Tank and a 50 / 50 drawing. A perfect starter for a growing club and I understand they did very well. Congratulations FLX and we look forward to working together on more fund raisers.

New this year was BINGO and it was brought to us by Laci Graham with the proceeds to benefit the Laural House. New attractions such as BINGO sometimes take time to build a following so Laci is confident that next year will see the numbers grow even more.

September looks to be another active month for our Rotarians. Important dates to remember are:

  • The Marc & Holly Kreuser’s Social Gathering is on September 10th and begins at 5 PM. This will be a “bring a dish to pass” picnic at 55 Gurnee Road, Newark, NY. Past gatherings at the Kreuser’s have been fun with plenty of great food. (This replaces the normal Club meeting that day at the American Legion)

  •  Saturday, September 12th is the “One Rotary Summit Day” from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM. This is a free summit held at Harris Beach Murtha, 99 Garnsey Road, Pittsford, NY 14534 and will provide training on improving Rotary membership. To register, contact Norma Reilly-Madayga as soon as possible.

  • Wednesday, September 23, Rotary Governor Lisa Norwood together with the Palmyra Rotary Club is hosting a “District 7120 Area Visit” to discuss and share meaningful projects that have “Lasting Impact”. All Club Members are invited, especially newer members, younger members and emerging leaders. The meeting will be held at the Zion Episcopal Church, 120 East Main Street, Palmyra, NY from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. This promises to be an exciting and informative meeting and this is one we should all try to make.

  • Have a happy and safe Labor Day weekend.
