Newark Rotary Club Bulletin

Donna Johnson welcomed Jim Love from the Red Cross who is today’s speaker.  Cindy Timerson visited again, looking to become a member soon.

Gary Reilly reported that Mike DeJohn is not doing well.  He is in the Clifton Springs Nursing Home on the 2nd floor of the Clifton Hospital.  Bob Bendix had his second cataract surgery.  Jean Bendix had a procedure of dye in her spine to decide if surgery is needed.  Thank you to all who contributed a total of $275 to Laurel House in memory of Susie’s daughter Kay Golding.

OK - here’s the short version -
EMPLOYERS have the option to defer the employee portion of Social Security tax from September 1, 2020 through December 31,2020 for employees who earn less than $4,000 per bi=weekly pay period.
EMPLOYEES social security tax deferred in 2020 should be reported in box 4 on form W-2C.
When little Johnny was at the Pediatrician he whispered to the Dr what he was allergic to.  When Johnny’s Mother picked up his RX the instructions read:
Do not take with BROCCOLI!
My son was chewing electricals so I had to ground him.
He is currently doing better and conducting himself properly.
A married man’s confession - I always read my wife’s horoscope to see what kind of day I’m going to have.

Where did Captain Hook get his hook?  At a second hand store!

Dave Hannan, via Zoom, showed us his lovely long ponytail - he’s seeing the Barber in the Spring.

President Donna had all in-person Rotarians sign the Covid liability waiver.

April 24th is the day for the canal clean-up.  All volunteers should meet at the locks at Clinton Ave.

Jan Hence reported that the Chicken & Biscuit dinner raised about $1,600 selling 300 meals.
Special thanks to Jeff Patchen, Karen Q.  Mitch Ruffalo, MaryJo Fenyn, Russ Harris, Sue Colacino and Richard VanLaeken for donating their tickets.  Thanks to Jean Bendix for her special selling techniques on line and to Peter Blandino showing up unexpectedly.

Fred Hicks announced that Ryan Kreuser has an idea for a fundraiser for the Rotary foundation. Ryan runs and we sponsor him.  Join us on March 4th when Ryan joins us to explain.

Cindy Timerson was happy to report that she has had her 2 Covid shots !!!

Karen Dean introduced our speaker, Jim Love who joined us on Zoom.  Jim has been with the Red Cross for 26 years - 10 years as Executive Director in Newark.  After the 2014 realignment, Wayne county is under the umbrella of Greater Rochester again.
The Red Cross provides humanitarian aid as well as military support.  Blood drives are a large part of Red Cross duties.  Jim fondly remembered our own Bob Goodman and his support of Wayne county blood drives.  Under military support, Jim had a special thank you to Frank All and Karen Dean for their participation in reconnection brunches.
Lucina reminded us of the April 20th blood drive in honor of Bob Goodman at the American Legion.
Donna Johnson remembers being in Haiti during Storm Gordon.  So thankful for the Red Cross finding them and distributing fleece blankets.
Our next meeting will be on March 4th.  This is an open meeting where we hear from all the Committee Chairs.
A PERSONAL SHOUT OUT TO HANNELORA !  We talked through our masks in Wegmans and she said she loves reading my newsletter since she can’t come to in-person meetings. She is my favorite Rotarian of the week!!

And more covid Humor

(Hopefully the last one!)
