By-Laws Proposed Change: change the amount of time for membership feedback on prospective new member application. Here is the proposed wording:
"Section 4 - If the decision of the board is favorable, the prospective member shall be informed of the purposes of Rotary and of the privileges and responsibilities of membership following which the prospective member shall, at an information meeting, be requested to sign the membership proposal form and to permit his or her name and proposed classification to be published for one week in the club bulletin."
"Section 5 - The general membership (active members only) has seven days following the initial publication of the information to send objections to any member of the board. Objection(s) may be submitted either in hard copy or electronic form stating reason(s). If no objection is received by the board within the time frame stated above, the proposed person, as prescribed in these bylaws, shall be considered to be elected to membership. If any such objection has been filed with the board, it shall vote on this matter at its next meeting. If approved, despite the objection, the proposed member shall be elected to membership."
Steve Taylor commented that he thought this was a good change that will speed up the membership process.

Program: Steve Hallagan introduced Tanya Taylor, Director of the Newark Public Library. Tanya studied at Buffalo State College. She has worked at various libraries beginning with Buffalo & Erie County branch library in 2002, took some time off to be a stay at home mom after the library system experienced significant layoffs. She returned to her library work in 2006 in Geneva, where she spent 16 years as Children's Librarian, the Youth Services Librarian, and then the Assistant Director holding dual positions. Tanya has been the Library Director of Newark Public Library since October 2022. She lives in Canandaigua with her husband, daughter, son, and their four pets: three dogs and one spicy cat named Pepper!
Tanya was a voice of enthusiasm and shared about the services that the OWWL system provides:
Books by mail
Books to Go
Community Visits
Family Literacy
One Book, OWWL Kids
The Great Giveback
And more!
Library Cards - they offer physical and digital cards. Download the OWWL app on your phone and a world of resources open up to you! The Online Resources section can help you find the perfect book, learn a new skill, or conduct the research that’s important to you. Check it out here!
There are some changes at the Newark Library — there is a nice reading area with a fireplace in the front area — come and see us.
Some tools you may not be aware of like: Materials Requests - if you are looking for a specific title that you don’t see it in the OWWL system and it has been released within the past 12 months. You can fill out a form (either online or in person at the library) requesting the title. If the library purchases it then they notify you and put it on hold for you.
Newark and Lyons are a fine free library. If you return a title late there is no fine, however if you lose the book then you must pay to replace the title.
The library offers so much more than just books: Passes to museums and parks, dvd’s, music, video games, books in spanish, adaptive learning tools, and more. All programs are free - for family, teens, children and adults. Please visit and support your local library!
