LOOKING BACK ON HOLLY'S YEAR
With this year’s motto - ROTARY CONNECTS THE WORLD - we had to find new ways to connect during a world wide pandemic. We were the first club in our district to have virtual zooming with 35-45 attendees staying connected.
Holly had 3 main goals:
1. Participant engagement involved our 5th Thursday bowling events, the Service Above Self dinner that honored Pat Albrecht and hopefully we will have a summer picnic at the home of the Hicks.
2. Unfortunately, in an effort to engage younger members, a satellite club was unable to form due to the Coronavirus.
3. We reconnected our own members with 60 second introductions, surveys regarding lunches and Holly’s favorite “talk like a Pirate Day”. We hope to revive Rotary Bucks and the annual end of year auction.
Other memories include the children’s desk donated to the library and Helmuth’s 50 year membership that we hope to celebrate in person in the future. Twelve new members were added to the roster, 7 Paul Harris pins were presented, a successful and timely Mask project was coordinated with Hallagan Mfg, the on going free lunch program and 15 Zoom meetings. Sadly we remember the loss of our member Marilyn Lawrence.
Things got a little soggy as Holly attempted to thank the board and her family for their support as she lived Rotary 24/7 over her tenure as President. Her family was patient but did have to enforce the ‘NO ROTARY TALK’ at the dinner table!
Finally Holly passed the President’s Medal (a gift from Gary and Norma that they bought in Germany at the International convention in June of 2019) to Donna Johnson.
Donna gave Holly some beautiful Rotary earrings and toasted to a “FUN YEAR”.
Dave Hannan presented Holly with a Paul Harris plus 1 pin. He was pleased to announce that each member in our district gives $100 and we have 50 sustaining members. He thanked Holly for her great leadership, telling Donna she has large shoes to fill!
