Trudy Hicks is a retired substitute teacher, a secretary for Wayne County United Way, was a golf assistant at Tarenwood, and worked in Dr. Fred Hicks' dental office as a dental assistant and front desk person. She sings in the Canal Town Chorale, plays the guitar, is a Friend of the Library, enjoys photography, and reads. She has been an Honorary Rotarian for several years due to her work schedule. She is sponsored by Fred Hicks.
President Karen Quartaro called the meeting to order on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 12:06 P.M. at the American Legion. Tim Johnson led the invocation and pledge. Graham Tedesco-Blair was the Sgt. at Arms.
Mike DeJohn has moved to assisted living at the Terrace of Newark. Helmuth Reinhardt said Hannelora sends her greetings and continues to heal. Bob Bendix is in the hospital for pneumonia. Chief Dave Christler said Greg Stell is not doing well.
President Quartaro’s “People of the Week” are Linda Werts, Kurt Werts, and Kirk Baker for taking the mission trip to Mexico.
Linda, Kurt, and Kirk discussed their trip. Linda explained the Newark Rotary Club donated $1,000 to put in a drinking fountain at a school in the Yucatan. The three of them went to volunteer and attend the dedication for that fountain. Linda said our club was asked to help create a library there as well.

Norma Reilly encouraged everyone to participate in a Rotary activity that gives a gift to a community—she said it is very rewarding. She presented Chief Christler with a Paul Harris +3. Congratulatins, Chief, and than you for your generosity.
Gary Reilly said we are looking to provide placemats for our club’s activities for the rest of the year and at least part of next year. Businesses can buy an ad on the placemat and the money will go to help Laurel House.
Michele McManus encouraged members to sign-up for the Progressive Dinner this year. We need a final count by April 13.
Community Service: Gary Reilly said the Coca-Cola photo we took last week will be featured at a tasting event at the conference. Jan Hence thanked everyone for contributing wine and for signing up to volunteer for the Pancake breakfast.
Membership: Kevin Mooney reminded everyone the next Membership Committee meeting is at Parker’s next Tuesday at noon. The District Training Assembly is coming up quickly on April 8.
PR: Graham announced the last call to get your District Assembly Training ad.
Foundation: Fred Hicks said the Foundation’s 100th Anniversary Lunch registration is due March 11. The event is on March 26, at the Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor. Additionally, you can purchase a case of wine for $220 and $100 goes to the Foundation.
Interact: Holly Kreuser said the Interact Club organized a Family Literacy Event at the end of February. About 10 kids showed up. The club hopes to try again next year. Honor Flight presented at Interact yesterday. The club hopes to hold their field trip to Honor Flight on April 9.
