Newark RISE

Newark Rotary Club Bulletin

Wellness Report

Jean Williams reported that Helmuth is receiving shots in his back to relieve his leg pain.  Hannelora says they support each other with their on going health problems.  They look forward to our calls and cards.

HEALTHY TIP OF THE WEEK

Grace Norcott reminds us that you don’t need a gym or an exercise program to stay fit.  You can burn calories by simply being alive!  Change some daily habits - park farther away from your destination, take the stairs, move the waste basket by your desk across the room, make several trips to your laundry room versus one big load.

KEEP MOVING

GARY - THE JOKER

Home schooling is going well.  2 students suspended for fighting and the teacher fired for drinking on the job!

Classified Dating AD - Single man with toilet paper seeks woman with hand sanitizer for good clean fun!

Day 6 of home schooling - My child just said “I hope I don’t have the same teacher next year”.....I’m so offended.

The jokes for this day were compliments of Bill Doebler

“Remember, no storm lasts forever.  Hold on, be brave, have faith. Every storm is temporary and we never face the storm alone.  God is with

us always and we have each other, our Rotary Family!!”

PROPER MASK WEARING DEMO

Dr. Dave Hannan, via zoom, shared his medical expertise on masks.  We wear masks to reduce the viral load.  Covid-19 is a virus for which there is no vaccine yet.  Wearing a mask is our best protection so far.  Your mask prevents droplets that you exhale and prevents inhaling droplets from others.  Try to reduce the times you touch your face.  Follow social distancing inside and use hand sanitizer frequently.  More details can be found on your e-mail from Dave.

SPEAKERS - HOME CARE -

COVID 19 PATIENTS

Karen Quartaro introduced our quest speakers, Stephanie Chalupa and Olivia Taillon.

Stephanie is the Sr. director of certified Home Health Agency Services at UR Medicine Home Care.  She is working on her masters in Health Care Management.  These have been challenging times during the pandemic.  People are fearful of Nurses visiting at their homes but there are those who cannot be helped virtually.  Visiting Covid patients requires extra PPE.  There is new ‘telehealth’ equipment allowing video visits when possible. This equipment can be useful in monitoring Covid-19 patients.  Out-patient clinics have been closed because it’s safest to stay at home.

Olivia graduated from Roberts Wesleyan college in 2018 and received her BSN in nursing.  Olivia feels she has found her nich in Home Care.  She works with a heavy case load of cancer patients, surgical incision patients, COPD and heart patients.  “The last 2 months have been insane” - reassuring patients of their safety with home visits.

Our own Karen Quartaro has joined the cause helping to install telehealth equipment.
