Newark RISE

Newark Rotary Club Bulletin

President Donna led our Rotary meeting via Zoom from Cape Cod.

WELLNESS REPORT

Donna reported that Peter Blandino was under the weather and would not be attending today’s meeting.

Holly was in attendance but dealing with the effects of her on-going radiation treatments.

Pat Albrecht was pleased to announce that her Husband David had a good 6 month check up and does not need to report again for 6 more months.

HEALTHY TIP OF THE WEEK

Grace Norcott spoke to us about the rewards of ‘giving’.  During the pandemic we have not been faced with the usual fundraising events.  Giving may require more of an effort.  Studies show that giving makes you mentally happier.  It’s called a “helper high”.  the feeling of happiness and positive attitude can actually be life extending.

Join Grace in her group sponsorship giving $25 toward her $250 goal.

You’ll be HAPPY to be giving!

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS

President Donna was pleased to announce that we have 6 more Premier Sponsorships - 2 from Charlie Hallagan, Alex Eligh Community Center, Waterman funeral, Halstead funeral, and June Crawford.  We need 7 more before the end of August to meet our goal.

Fred’s foundation committee met following Thursday’s Rotary meeting at the Community Center.

CLUB PICNIC

Keeping our fingers crossed for good weather on Sunday.  It would be a shame if Fred and I had to eat Michele’s cake all by ourselves!

HAPPY MOMENTS

Donna Johnson is happy to be vacationing in Cape Cod - having a good time with her family.

Josh McCrossen is happy that his son Evan made it up from Florida to celebrate his younger brother’s wedding.

Deb Stoep is happy that her husband GRACIOUSLY took her canoeing and fishing on their anniversary of 38 years.

SPEAKER - DEB STOEP

Karen Quartaro introduced our own Deb Stoep who works for Care Net of Wayne County.  Deb has been living in Wayne county for 38 years.  She and Paul have 4 children.  They have farmed and started a gravel business.  Deb is a licensed clinical social worker and the Director of Care Net.  Care Net wants to help women and men before, during and after unintended pregnancies.  The Center has relationships and classes with families that include parenting skills.

Some lessons and advise can be found on line at Brightcourse.com.  They are located on Rt. 31 where the Catholic Charities use to be.

They are funded by churches, businesses and individual people. Presently they are in need of an Office Manager working 20 hours a week.

Our club will be taking a collection of items to support Care Net during the month of September.

Formula, Wipes and Diapers

Fat crayons and simple coloring books

You can drop your items off at the LNB branch in Newark in Donna’s office.

Next week will be an open meeting with a brief visit from our District Governor Linda Kohl and our first new member induction - Chuck Waterman.

and a little humor...
