Charlie Hallagan: Celebration of Life will be held November 30th, 1:00 PM, at First United Methodist Church, Newark.
Susie Earl is a “96%” better. Plans to return to club meetings soon.

Announcements:
Dave Doebler updated us on the Salvation Army Bell Ringing after Thanksgiving Day. The main shortage is on Saturday.
Lynn updated the club on the Newark Rotary Christmas Party on December 12 at 6 pm. The party also includes Ugly Sweater and Cookie Exchange. It will take place at Rose Bowl Lanes event Room. Estimated cost between $15 - $20.
Jan Hence - Bags for food collection are now available.
Dave Christler discussed the Newark Rotary Salutes. Three Saturdays in March 2025 to salute the Town of Arcadia veterans. Lunch will be catered for veterans by Erie Shore Cafe. Looking for locations to hold it. Also looking for people to help with table decorations etc. Currently compiling a list of veterans.
Michele McManus provided posters for RPO's December 6th 7 pm concert.

Survey Results
How much the club donates: Most think it is appropriate. Suggestions that larger donations have more of an impact, having standing small, medium and large grants, knowing the impact of our donations to organizations to help make donation amount decisions. Bill Doebler spoke about the Newark Food Closet and Newark Free Lunch program. Many Rotarians thought that more should be given to the Food Closet. Josh pointed out, from his work and volunteer experience, it is very hard to measure impact. Some people thought we should not be giving to certain charities.
Fundraisers: Most Rotarians support the cash raffle ($100/ticket). Pancake Breakfast was also popular. Less popular was the chicken barbecue and spaghetti dinners. Some spoke about the importance of getting out into the community, even if it does not make a lot of money.
Most Newark Rotarians were in support of an increase in the club dues increase.
Most Rotarians were satisfied with being a member of the club.
It is with heavy hearts that we remember, Charlie, who passed away on November 9, 2024. Charlie’s life was one of service, generosity, and unwavering commitment to the betterment of his community. His legacy is one that will endure for many years to come.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Newark United Methodist Church, 301 South Main Street, Newark, NY at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 30th. A private burial will be in Newark Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Charlie joined the Newark Rotary Club in 1955, sponsored by Roy Wemett. He embraced the ideals of "Service Above Self" and dedicated himself to making a difference in the lives of others. Charlie was honored as a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow and Major Donor, a reflection of his immense contributions to the Rotary Foundation and his commitment to Rotary’s mission both locally and internationally.
But it wasn’t just through his financial contributions that Charlie made an impact. He had a remarkable ability to bring joy and lightness to every meeting with his quick wit, and his thoughtful comments were always delivered with a smile. He could always be counted on for a laugh.
Beyond his work with Rotary, Charlie was deeply involved in the Newark community. He was a steadfast supporter of many local organizations, with a special place in his heart for the Alex Eligh Community Center, where his contributions helped improve the lives of countless individuals and families.
His spirit of giving, his kindness, and his dedication to making the world a better place will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family, friends, and the countless people whose lives were enriched by Charlie’s presence.
It sounds like the Taylors had a wonderful trip to the Cayman Islands. They saw a Rotary trailer at the airport. Great publicity for Rotary! Steve and Evie are saving for their "happy bucks tab".
Eliana Catgui, Newark Rotary Exchange Student 2018-2019, is studying in The Netherlands. Recently, she participated in a conference in Ireland which focused on food security. Eliana and her team made a presentation on challenges farmers in Kanya are facing, due to climate change.
