President Karen Quartaro called the meeting to order on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 12:05 P.M. at the American Legion. Peter Dohr led the invocation and pledge. Mitch Ruffalo was the Sgt. at Arms.
Our Greater, Frank Russell, introduced our visiting Rotarians and guests. Tom Mizelle of the Ontario-Walworth club and Marty Teller of the Clifton Springs club visited our club meeting.Guests were: Sherrie Rielly and Anthony Bianchini, guests of Gary and Norma Reilly; and Marina Ruffalo, guest of Mitch Ruffalo.
Bob Goodman reported that Helmuth and Hannelora Reinhardt are both recovering from ailments. There is a card going around for Hannelora. Gail Vanderbrook’s mom has not been doing well and is in the hospital, her daughter is in a waiting list for a liver transplant, and her granddaughter was recently diagnosed with a one-in-a-million immune disease.
President Quartaro’s Fine People for the Week: Member of our two Rotary Spelling Bee teams: the Deplorables and Premiers.
Sami Cepulo sent a thank-you for the Christmas gift we sent her.
President Quartaro reminded everyone once again that the District Training Assembly is April 8. Each club is responsible for bringing in a silent action item. We will buy one, but the committee is looking for ideas.
Karen Vanderbrook earned her Blue Badge. Congratulations, Karen!
Service: Jan Hence said we have a lot of volunteer spots to be filled for the Pancake breakfast. She also asked club member to please donate items to fill raffle baskets. She reported that 40 people have not turned in the raffle tickets. She asked if anyone seen the muffin pan—it is missing? (It is not on Dury Lane).
Membership Committee: President Quartaro reported that Trudy Hicks was approved as a full member.
PR: Graham Tedesco-Blair said they are still taking ads for the District Assembly program.
Foundation: Fred Hicks reminded everyone of the brunch.
Queen of Hearts: It was not Jorge Bueso's lucky day.
DistrictGovernor-Nominee-Designate, Dr. Dave Hannan introduced Martin Teller, CEO of FLACRA. They provide in-patient and out-patient services. He discussed the heroin epidemic hitting Wayne County and some of the actions they are working on, like providing the medicine that helps overdosing users recover.
