Celebrating Susie
(By John Zornow & Trudy Hicks)
This Rotary club prides itself in being the premier Rotary club in District 7120. A big reason is that our members are involved in all facets of local community life. The hospital, Chamber of Commerce, Laurel House, village board, town board, fire departments and many other organizations are represented by Rotarians. The champion of them all is our own Suzanne Crothers Earl. A former village trustee, Mayor, library volunteer, hospital foundation member, historical society board member and recently retired after 12 years as a member of our Newark Board of Education. Being a school board member is without a doubt the most thankless job in any community, but in Susie’s case a gratifying experience. You see, Susie represented the entire community during her years on the board. It was not just about the kids, or just about the taxpayers or any other group, but it was about what was best for the community. This award, just a piece of paper inside a dollar store frame, is a pittance for the many years of service that Suzanne Earl has given to our community and she deserves our heartfelt thanks.
QUOTE - Ben Franklin said this about education and community life:
TELL ME AND I FORGET. TEACH ME AND I REMEMBER. INVOLVE ME AND I LEARN
Why is this important? Well, you see, Susie Earl knew Ben Franklin!
