Newark RISE

Check Presentation

Doug Doebler presented a check in the amount of $1222.36 to Ann Rogers.  Money was collected by Rotarian bell ringers for the Salvation Army.  90% of this amount will stay in the village of Newark.
 

District Conference 2019

 

Assistant District Governor Kevin Mooney announced this year’s conference will be held at Kalahari water park and resort.  Make your reservations now for the Spring event.

The Rochester Rotary club is working on a global grant for deaf children in Zambia.  Kevin encouraged us to purchase framable maps and info on our district to aid in this project.

Wellness

Michele McManus’s daughter Margaret was in Strong with complications following a tooth infection. She is now back to work planning ahead for a dental implant. Hannelora Reinhardt is home recovering from cellulitis.  She is seeing many specialists and enjoys the cards we send.  Jean Williams asked us to keep her grandson in our thoughts as he undergoes cancer surgery.  Bill Doebler’s sister recently passed away.
 

Community Service

Donna Johnson announced that the FAMILY PROMISE “Hospitality Shower” was held at the First United Methodist Church from 6 to 8 on Friday July 13th.  A variety of household items were collected for the hosting of homeless families. Calendars of upcoming events are available at each lunch table.
 

Tips from Secretary Marc

A new addition to our weekly meeting - Marc will be educating us on how to better use our computers for Rotary information.  Our first print out instructs us how to download the ClubRunner App and how to create a Rotary Account.

Thibault Knodcaert, former exchange student (8 years ago)from France was a guest of Taber and Dana Marsh.  He gave us an update on his life.  After training in the food industry, he is now doing what he loves, working with horses. He has wonderful memories of his time in the United States and loved his host families the Moons and the Marshes.

July 5th -President Linda Werts

As our new President for the year 2018-2019, Linda gave us a general overview of her plans for our club under her leadership.  The following 5 goals were presented:

1- International focus
2 - In conjunction with the Red Cross, 2 memorial blood drives for Jack Blodgett and Bob Goodman Sound the Alarm smoke detectors
3 -FLCC groups to serve their community
4 - Black top at the Fireman’s Field
5 - Assist Dave Hannan as he plans for the District conference in 2020
 
Everyone received this year’s “BE THE INSPIRATION” pins.

July 12th - June Crawford

June gave a power point presentation on Hill Cumorah and the worker’s responsibilities.  The dress code includes sleeves, good shoes, long shorts and gloves.  Everyone needs to bring their own apron.  There is a $50 fine for No-shows.  Managers are there to help anyone with questions.  This is one of our largest fundraisers.

July 19th - Henry Hahn

Henry brought us up to date on the renovation of Laurel House.  The official opening will be no later than November 1st.  He thanked Tom McUmber for his volunteer work. Tom  was here as a guest of his wife Susie. The major fundraiser was the 5K race in June, raising $10,000.  Next June will be the 4th annual race.

July 26th - Joe O'Toole

Joe spoke to us about the Sodus Point Lighthouse.  Joe is the Director of the lighthouse and the Historical Society.  There are actually 2 lighthouses.  The Outerlight is run by the Coast Guard.  The first lighthouse was built in1825.  In 1901 it was not recognized as a light house and became a museum in 1985.  22,000 people come to visit every year.  In this capacity Joe refers to it as a CULTURAL BEACON.  It is open 6 days a week for 6 months of the year.

Holly Kreuser announced that her committee has planned several social events to attract new members.  Members are encouraged to put prospective names in the notebooks provided on each table

Public Image

Tracy Zornow is making sure all press releases and photos are sent to the Grapevine.  The  meetings will be held on the 4th Mondays at the Monterey Restaurant.

YOUTH SERVICES

Melissa has prepared mentors for High School freshman. They will have CLUB FAIR during School hours attracting students to join Interact. Bob and Jean Bendix as exchange student hosts took Alena to the airport to return to Latvia, reportedly sobbing all the way to her plane.  She will be missed.  On August 16th Aleana will be arriving from Italy.  On August 14th Elliot arrives from Sweden.  On August11th Grace Kreuser will be leaving for Denmark.

STRATEGIC PLANNING

President Linda asked each table to make a list in the notebooks provided of things Rotarians can do to promote awareness in the Community.  We took a few minutes for brainstorming - We need to make the community aware of what Rotarians do.
