Last week we still did not get a Queen of Hearts winner (11 cards left!) and Craig Roberts of Family Promise spoke to us.

WELCOME VISITORS

Cindy Timerson was a guest of Jean Bendix.  Graig Roberts was a guest of Linda Werts and Suleyman joined us on Zoom from Turkey.

WELLNESS REPORT
Bob Bendix reported on his sister, Jean Williams, who usually gives the wellness report.  We could see on zoom that Jean had a black & blue chin.  Attempting to walk in her new sneakers, she caught the edge of the carpet and down she went!  Fortunately she only suffered a sore knee and chin!

TERRIFIC TAX TIPS - DOUG FORGUE
Heres a little history of the IRS.  You may not find this as funny as Doug did - but that explains why hes in the business.
The IRS originates from the Commissioner of Internal Revenue, a federal office created in 1862 to assess the nations FIRST income tax to fund the American Civil War.  In 1913 Congress was authorized to impose a tax on income and established the Bureau of Internal Revenue.  In 2017 they collected $3.4 trillion in gross revenue and THATS NO LAUGHING MATTER!

GUEST SPEAKER GRAIG ROBERTS
Linda Werts introduced Graig as the Executive Director of Family Promise.  Graig referred to Linda as being very active and the DRIVING FORCE in this program. Moving beds every week-end was one important aspect of the program in which Newark Rotary was involved.  Linda Werts and Paul Salisbury helped to renovate the Day Center.  Also involved in food delivery is our own Ann Rogers.
The Family Promise mission is to support the homeless and help them sustain independence.

Presently there are 22 people in apartments in Savannah that hope to graduate into stable housing.

Two of the biggest problems are transportation and child care.  During Covid, funding was helped by United Way grants and PPE loans.  The area most affected was in-person volunteers.

Linda announced that we have lost our host location at the Park Presbyterian Church.  Anyone with ideas should contact Linda.
