Last week we were happy to have Susie Earl back with us!

Alicia Vazquez shared the Random Acts of Kindness Day. Every random act of kindness is significant and makes every day better.  Quote from Princess Diana: “Carry out a random act of kindness, with no exception of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” Alicia also led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Susie Earl was back for our meeting!

Sulyman from Turkey joined us on Zoom.

 

Marge Giles’ mother passed away on Saturday.

President Melissa’s mother was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and has back fractures. Melissa asked for help with her Rotary responsibilities over the next several months.

Gary Reilly asked to keep Alex Q’s parents in prayers.

Lucina Hallagan led the club in a moment of silence.

 

Dave Hannan said that the District Conference will be held live in Oswego, NY, on April 29, 30 and May 1, 2022. Newark Rotary will run the auction. Michele McManus will manage the club’s display.

 

Jan Hence: Pancake Breakfast will be held May 14^th. The first chicken barbecue will be April 2^nd.

 

Linda and Norma announced that the club will salute school workers. They asked for team leaders for each school building, to include the bus garage. Norma said it’s a good opportunity to learn more about others on your team. There may be a small budget involved with this project. Norma asked for everyone to become engaged since in surveys, club members asked for more hands-on local projects.

 

 

 

Foundation Minute 

Scott Healy discussed the criteria needed to have a successful grant application.

 

Russ Harris, Helmuth Reinhardt, Linda Werts - We sang Happy Birthday for the first time in a long time as it was Linda’s birthday the day of the meeting.

 

Member Spotlight: Gary Reilly - Born in Dansville. Graduated from Olean Business Institute. Gary served four years in the Army. He worked number of different jobs, ending with 25 years in Wayne ARC. Gary is happily married for 32 years to Norma. Interests include Rotary and travel among many others.  Gary is grateful to Jack Blodgett for getting him back into Rotary.

 

Queen of Hearts: Susie Earl picked her own number, but did not draw the Queen of Hearts.

 

Marc was happy with Virginia Tech’s basketball win over Syracuse and even happier with the win over UVA.

Karen Q - Now is now a home owner!

Josh McCorssen shared a funny story about his grandchildren.

Adam O paid a fine for Newark Rotarians helping him navigate the complexities of Rotary.

Dave Tyler was happy that his wife Jill is now also retired.

Gary announced that tomorrow is his and Norma’s 33^rd wedding anniversary.

Jorge Bueso  says he is happy Jasimine made Dean’s list at SUNY Cortland.

 

Frank All - Due to rotation mixup, Frank was asked to give his with Words of Inspiration. He quoted from Dalai Lama - “Our prime purpose in this life is to help others…”

 

Jeff Patchen introduced Mitch Ruffalo. Jeff described Mitch as a very a passionate person about many things including including Rotary. Mitch discussed Rotary and what it means to be Rotarian. Mitch reviewed how and why Rotary was founded. During the talk we said the Four-Way Test. Today’s RI President Shaeker Mehta is from the Calcutta, India Rotary Club. Mitch mentioned that our club is a premier club. Examples are that we have two past District Governors and complete wonderful projects. Mitch reviewed Rotary International’s mission and vision statement. He also reviewed the Objective of Rotary. Mitch played a sound recording of Paul Harris’ speech given in 1933 in Boston to non-Rotarians on the meaning of being a Rotarian. Mitch also said that one of the best things Rotary did was to admit women. For Mitch being a Rotarian means better fellowship and learning, giving back, carry humanitarian work, love and compassion, giving to others.
