Adam Olschewske led the club weekly meeting for the first time as club president last Thursday.

Wellness Report – Ann and Tim Johnson is recovering from COVID, doing better after being in the ICU; Adam’s wife, Colleen Marshall, home from hospital but still has a road of recovery ahead of her.
 
Guests: Visiting Rotarian: Katherine Crothers, Charlotte, N.C.  - she was our first outbound exchange student.
 
Snapple Facts:
  1. The longest case of hiccups lasted 68 years
  2. The state of Alabama raised the money to fund the construction of a bridge by holding a rooster auction
  3. It is illegal in the United Kingdom to hold a salmon in a suspicious manner
  4. Tennis was originally played with bare hands
  5. When grazing or resting cows tend to align their bodies with magnetic North & South poles.
  6. In Switzerland it is illegal to own only one guinea pig because they are prone to loneliness
Announcements:
  1. Doug Doebler reporting on Haiti. The refugee couple that Canandaigua is sponsoring has experienced some heart ache, but also have some good news. They have found jobs and are fitting into the community.
    1. They are bringing in some family members from Haiti.
    2. Doug & Judy attended a fundraiser in Cleveland, OH on sex trafficking. Film called “Sound of Freedom” about a group that goes in and rescues these children. Well worth the watch - very well done.
    3. Unfortunately the USA is a huge consumer of child pornography.
    4. The newest part of child trafficking is for organ transplants.
    5. There are no elected officials at this time in Haiti.
  2. Reminder - our queen of hearts raffle goes to support the Haiti Orphanage
  3. Our Cash Raffle - have sold 68 tickets so far. The Cash Raffle will be held in September. The tickets make good gifts too.
  4. Kevin Mooney - Newark Fest: 17 sponsors have paid; 14 craft vendors; 4 food vendors have committed so far. Retro Taco, Molly’s ice cream, Fairville Fire, Hot Dog truck.  We have room for more vendors
  5. Pat Albrecht - her husband, Dave, will have a tent with his model trains - be sure to visit him.
  6. There are a couple of bands committed.
  7. Adam - is bringing back the “Exempt” button - Steve Mooney bought it for this week.
Happy Moments:
  1. Jan Hence - Yankees had a perfect game (1st in 11 years)
  2. Scott Healy - went to Disney with his family and had a great, albeit hot, time.
  3. Josh McCrossen - had 8 of 11 grandchildren come to visit on the 4th. Josh and 3 sons played golf, hit into the swamp and tried to recover his ball - promptly fell into the swamp. Didn’t recover his ball, but found someone else’s!
  4. David Johnson - had a great golf tournament for ARC of Wayne. Thank you to all the Rotarians who supported it.

Queen of Hearts. Jeff Patchen did not pick the Queen - the pot continues to grow.
 
Program:  Adam shared his vision for the year:
  1. Membership engagement
  2. Making members and prospective members comfortable with their own level of engagement.
  3. Start a satellite club
    1. Will meet on their own terms
    2. pick their own location
    3. will have a “Champion” rather than a president - still under our club’s board of directors
    4. find some of their own service projects
  4. Build on the success of Newark Fest
  5. Have Fun - enjoy what we do and enjoy each other. We are a great club filled with great people.
