2024 Total Solar Eclipse — April 8, 2024: single largest mass travel event in the USA
Solar Eclipse: partial 2:07pm, total 3:21-34pm, partial 4:33pm.
So be aware of your travel needs during those times on April 8.
This will be the single biggest mass travel event because people from the Boston to Philadelphia corridor will probably head our way to witness the eclipse as the path goes right over us.
Estimate that our area will have over 50,000 visitors. There will be huge crowds, most people will want to leave 15 minutes after the eclipse causing major traffic issues.
Schools will be closed that day.
Challenges:
- same day as the NCAA Men’s basketball championship
- don’t know where people will stay
- people are already making reservations
- cell tower overload
How to prepare:
- be ready - have your groceries, gas, etc at least several days ahead of time
- Manufacturing might want to consider not having shifts end during the eclipse
- Don’t schedule appointments on that day
Look for the opportunities to show off our beautiful county during this event.
