Speaker - Rev Dr. Colleen Hallagan Preuninger
Lucina introduced her daughter who joined us via Zoom from Stanford, CA. Colleen was a Newark Rotary Exchange student in 2001-2002. She holds a B.A. in German Language and Literature from Hamilton College, Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary. She served at Syracuse University and Shenandoah University, working with youth. Colleen is now the Associate Dean of Religious & Spiritual Life and Director of Student Engagement at Stanford University.

Colleen began the meeting showing off her Hallagan chairs in her office!

Colleen noted that her Gen Z students are less religiously affiliated. But she believes that it is important to have the education available for students on their spiritual path. She noted there are increased mental health needs due to COVID. Her department focuses on three areas. Religious Access - Example: Ensure students have access to religious or spiritual community of their choosing. Communities of Belonging - The multi-faith center has prayer rooms for different faiths. Spiritual Wellness - Crafting a meaningful life. How do you train students to ask meaningful questions in the middle of Silicon Valley?

Questions: Steve Hallagan asked if they are able to draw students in? Normally yes, but COVID has turned everything upside down. They are still evaluating and in five years they should know.
