SPEAKERS - NEWARK MUSIC DEPARTMENT
March is MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS month.
Jean Bendix, our former High School vocal instructor was pleased to introduce Kate Flock, now in charge of H.S. vocal music, Bob Humphreys in charge of Instrumental music and Lara Larsson the music teacher at Perkins Elementary School.
Kate explained the challenges of teaching music during the pandemic.  It’s hard to hear your neighbor in the choir when you are 12 feet apart.
Bob described the Band as BONKERS! They are divided into 5 bands with no in-person lessons.  On Wednesdays from 8-2:40 they meet with a small group every 20 minutes.
We listened to a beautiful vocal recording where each student submitted their part that was then edited and put together to form the choir - It’s all magic to me!
Lara shared the Lincoln and Perkins March Newsletter describing the “Newark Primary Music Makers”.  Covid has taken an emotional toll on students.  The Elementary music teachers have been very creative using puppets and  a music kit for each student.
The H.S.is holding a virtual musical this spring - WE WILL ROCK with music from Queen.  Emily Howard will be getting out information as to how you can watch.

Next week we will hear more about the Music Program from Cindy Briggs
