At our most recent meeting, the Newark Rotary Club donated $1,000 to the Newark Food Closet.
  • President Mitch opened meeting at 12:05pm
    • Mike Muscolino volunteered to say the invocation, straight from Blue Bloods
    • Lisa Barrett from Newark Food Closet was only guest
  • Wellness Report
    • Marge had no wellness updates, but said she was thinking about the club and knew that several members may be struggling but do not want to make that public, so please keep them all in  your thoughts.
    • The club welcomed back Sharon SanAngelo
    • It was reported that Helmuth was still weak following his recent procedure, but recovering.
    • Suzie Earl spoke with Anne Johnson who said that Tim was doing well and even out working on his car.
    • PDG Dave Hannan noted that we lost fellow a Rotarian from the Pittsford Club.  Bruce Specter recently passed away following a few months of battling a cardiac issue.
  • Foundation Report
    • Scott Healy stated that 10 months into our Rotary year, we are still $1,500 short of our annual goal of $10,000.  With two months remaining, still plenty of time to give.
    • Polio Plus campaign is still short of goal, as well
    • Two members have received Paul Harris recognition this year
    • Eight members have received multiple Paul Harris recognition
    • Paul Salisbury was recognized today as a multiple Paul Harris recipient and was (finally) pinned by President Mitch.
 
  • Mitch, along with Linda, presented $1,000 check to Lisa Barrett from the Newark Food Closet on behalf of the Newark Rotary Foundation.
    • Lisa stated that the Newark Food Closet has served our community for 51 years – longer than she has been alive!
    • From January 1st through yesterday, they have served 458 (?) households
  • Donna Johnson was welcomed back from her trip from Mexico.  She reported that travel went smoothly and her group was safe and the time in Tabi was productive.  She also visited a Rotary Club in Tulum and presented their badge/banner to the club. 
  • Bruce Chambers reminded everyone about Community Pride Day on 5/20.  Volunteers still needed.
  • Mitch reminded everyone about the District Conference this coming Saturday.  No need to pre-register, so anyone can just show up and get in.  $50 fee, which includes a 425 food voucher, per Jim Weiler.
  • Birthdays & Wedding Anniversaries
    • PDG Dave Hannan’s birthday is today.  A chorus of Happy Birthday was led by Karen.
    • Dave Tyler and his wife are celebrating 42 years of marriage
  • Adam Olschewske recently returned from a trip to Disney with his wife and son, which included a cruise.  He noted that the cruise was enjoyable, in part, because he could only walk 500 feet in any direction.  They also ran into a family from England who they had befriended on a previous trip. 
  • PDG Norma led a game to give us all a glimpse of what the BeeCathalon was like this past Saturday.  The game consisted of unscrambling three words and providing rotary’s two mottos.  The team comprised of Jeanne & Paul Salisbury and Jim Weiler ‘won’ the competition by unscrambling two out of the three words.  No team got all three words unscrambled.  Every team knew Service Above Self, but no one knew the second one and even after Norma said it, I still don’t know it J
  • After a VERY LONG drumroll, Gary Reilly was unable to pick the queen of hearts, so the pot continues to grow.
  • Malwina let us know that she went shopping for a prom dress.  Although she was looking for a pink one, she settled on a light blue dress.  She is also looking for whoever purchased meat sticks in support of her Senior Trip fundraiser – she has them, so please let her know if you bought some.
  • Dave Johnson promoted the Arc Wayne’s annual golf tournament which will be at Wayne Hills on June 26th.  All proceeds go to the Arc of Wayne Foundation, which then are returned to the Arc in the form of grants in support of the individuals and programs supported.  Since 2013, the Foundation has awarded more than $275,000 in grants. You can support the event by golfing, through sponsorship, or purchasing raffle tickets for a Yeti cooler that will be full of prizes and gift cards. Reach out to Dave for further details.
  • Mitch auctioned off a golf umbrella that was found during the recent canal cleanup.  Dave Johnson got it for a mere $10, but you could still win it, as it may end up in the Yeti cooler he is raffling for the Arc.
  • Mitch also shared some details of something he found, but chose not to bring in.  Inquiring minds want to know.
  • Mitch read a nice note from Alicia Vasquez.  She and her husband bought a house in Beaumont, Texas and they are enjoying the weather, although they have only encountered tow tornado warnings.  She will be joining a new Rotary club but Newark Rotary Club will always have a special place in her heart.

  • Mitch asked for a show of hands of who would be attending the District Conference on Saturday.  It appears that our club will be well-represented.
  • Adam let everyone know that on their way back from the conference, everyone could swing by Engine 14 Brewery in Naples to enjoy some great music from Flannel Underground. 
  • Mitch closed the meeting at 1pm.
