Program: Kim Howell, Wayne County Community Schools, Newark Reds Food Pantry Coordinator
Kim spear headed starting a food pantry within the school district. The pantry is physically located in the High School - but it is for the entire school district. Requests can be made by students, parents, administration. Kim receives the requests then prepares a package from the pantry that is stocked by Food Link and Wegmans, and ensures that it is delivered directly to the families. She also provides food and snacks “on the go” at the high school. She has many students stop in daily looking for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fruit, applesauce, etc. She is a vital resource to combat food insecurity in our school district. She also helps family to connect with resources that are available to them. The Newark Reds Food Pantry is the recipient of a Newark Rotary District Grant.
Scott Healy - spoke about Rotary International Foundation Month. Some statistics: Rotary Foundation has received the highest percentage from Charity Navigator for 16 consecutive years. Here is a link to Scott's talk about the Rotary Foundation.
