Our open meeting last Thursday was lots of fun and got us caught up with various committees and each other.

  1. Reminder:  Service Above Self Dinner, Thursday 10/26 (no noon meeting that day):  Cocktails 5:30; Dinner 6:00 pm. Look for the reservation form in your email.
  2. Norma Madayag-Reilly — reminder, Newark Rotary Salutes will be the essential workers (Newark Police, NAVA, Newark Volunteer Fireworks).
  3. Gary Reilly — Camp Onseyawa raffle tickets - drawing at Camp Dinner, 11/10 at Club 86
  4. Steve Hassler — tomorrow, 10/13 is Homecoming - parade at 4:30 pm leaving from the Community Center. Community Pride day - wear any and all variations of maroon and grey.
  5. Oratorical Contest — We are encouraging Newark High School juniors to participate. Winners may receive scholarship money for a qualified college, university or trade school.
  6. Jim Weiler — membership meeting.  Mitch Ruffalo created a new mentorship program for new members. It will be presented at the next Board of Directors meeting. Thank you Mitch.
  7. Satellite Club — hoping to have an informal meeting in November. It would be under our umbrella, but will create their own meeting schedule.
  8. Next years Newark Festival will be on September 7, 2024
  9. Chuck Waterman - Community Services — Newark Salutes will be in March.  Linda Werts is stepping down as chair — please contact Norma or Chuck if you have some interest in chairing or co-chairing this effort.
  10. We will be donating food bags again this year for the Food Closet.
  11. International Service — support the orphanage in Haiti, active water and sanitation project in Tabí, Mexico, we host an exchange student whenever possible, encourage members to read the monthly magazine, the past 2 years we have been partners with another club for an international global grant, want to create a greater tie to Paper Fig which is an outreach to women in Uganda.

  2. Jean and Bob Bendix — new grandparents. Ames Capen Dunbar born on 10/7.  He is absolutely beautiful - congratulations!
  3. Megan Kreuser is recovering from an appendicitis — she is recuperating at Holly and Marc’s - so they are no longer empty nesters again :)
  4. Josh McCrossen — welcomed their 12th grandchild — Rowan Cole McCrossen
  5. Chuck Waterman — passed his pilot license renewal exams!
