The Newark Fire Department was recognized for their support of the Newark Rotary Family Festival.

Newark Fire Department was presented with a check from the Newark Rotary Club for their support of the Family Festival. Later in the meeting they took questions about their training, size of their organization and the Fireman's Field.
Rajul from India where the Taj Mahal is located. His daughter is attending RIT. Norma and Gary took Rajul around Rochester.
Wanda Johncox of Canandaigua Rotary Club updated us on Puerto Rico. The southern and western parts of the island were devastated by the hurricane. Her organization is bringing supplies to the island and helping with the rebuilding of homes.
Wellness
Marge did not have any updates, but Pat Albrecht said that Marge was in the hospital. Marge confirmed that she was there for the weekend.
Jean Bendix said that Judy All is home from the hospital, after having surgery on her wrist.

President Mitch contacted Barb Viola to check to see how they are doing. Mitch said that a lot was lost in Florida and asked that we consider supporting the victims of Florida as much as possible.
PDG Hannan asked for a volunteer to attend the Rotary World Polio Day conference October 21-22 in Zurich, Switzerland (although the website says it is being held in Geneva, Switzerland). Dave gave us a history of Rotary and the club’s involvement in combating polio. Smallpox, wild poliovirus Type 2 and 3 are eradicated throughout the world. Dave said that the day will come when the disease is eradicated. The virus has appeared in Rockland County and in London. Our cub has donated at least $1500 per year.
Tim Johnson was asked to speak to the club. He spoke about coming to Newark in 1979. It was not long before he was taken in by the community including Rotary. He is a past club president. He says this is not a “knife and fork” club. As a minister, it was a way to interact with people of different faiths. Tim recounted that at one meeting he was having a bad week and was sitting with the Newark School District Superintendent. The superintendent told Tim that he was the cheerleader for the community. If he left, what would the community do? He said that was one of the hats he wore. He has seen people stay for a short time and remain a long time. Of all the people in the room, only Steve Mooney could say he was in the club in 1979. Tim quoted John Wesley: “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”
