President Jim's Message

Hello Newark Rotarians,

There's a character in a book that I am reading who uses the expression,"you are what you do".  He's speaking in the ethical sense, as is seen in Herbert Taylor's phrase, "of the things we think, say or do".  Being aware of the impact of what we do guides us to help create and maintain a fair and just society.

Newark Rotary embraces this philosophy.  At the beginning of March, we held a brunch to honor our area veterans, which was well received by those being honored.

Linda Werts and Donna Johnson represented us well in March as they worked to assure clean water for the greatest number of citizens in Mexico. It demonstrated the thoughtfulness of Rotary, where we try to provide basic human needs throughout the world.

In April, we will be giving a nod to environmental protection by doing our annual canal and highway cleanups.

As you can see, Newark Rotarians are what they do.  Let us continue to care.

 Yours in Rotary Service,
 Jim

Literacy Committee Set Up Bookshelf
The Literacy Committee led by Linda Werts and Garret Jones, along with Habitat for Humanity, dedicated a brand-new bookshelf at All Fluffed Up Laundromat. This special project aims to promote literacy and provide access to books for our community. Also helping out were David Tyler and Norma Madayag Reilly.

These photos are from Planta Hidekel, a facility that is now providing clean water for drinking, cooking, and bathing to the local community. Their hard work is making a real difference, and we couldn’t be prouder of the impact this will have!
