Announcements
  • Marc Kreuser announced that the Board approved to raise the price of lunches to $15. The $3 (no drink, meal, dessert) and $5 (drink and desert only) are staying the same. The prince increase is due to increased costs for Nana’s. This is the first increase in price in years. We still need to meet the 30-plate minimum so that Nana’s can plan the meals appropriately.
  • Dave Johnson said that ARC Wayne will host a Color Fun Run on September 3. Also, 50-50 tickets are being sold with the drawing held at the Family Festival.
  • Ukraine Relief – Clothing, wipes, backpacks, pain-killers continue to be collected at Rotary meetings.
  • Sunday Funday  - Luie Rivera reminded us that it takes place this Sunday, August 21st 5-7 PM. School supplies will be given out.

Happy Moments
  • Jean Bendix called out Ryan Kreuser for not paying attention to the meeting.
  • Scott Healy took Kim out to dinner for their 37th wedding anniversary and they got proofed!
  • Julie Nevelizer announced that today is Ken and Herbie’s 60th wedding anniversary.
  • Holly Kreuser said that she and Marc had a good trip to Galveston, TX. But it was too hot. She did not recommend anyone to move to Texas (Alicia)!
  • Karen Quartaro was excited to find out she will be a grandmother in February.

Youth Exchange
Malwina, our exchange student from Poland, was introduced. Malwina presented her sponsoring club’s trading banner to President Mitch. In return, Mitch presented to her this year’s Rotary theme pin.

New Member Induction
Katie Pullen was formally made an active member of the Newark Rotary Club. Welcome to Newark Rotary!

Program
Alicia Vazquez discussed the Newark Library Summer Reading program. The program grew very strongly during this summer. It encouraged young readers to increase their time spent reading.  In addition, the program had numerous presentations, a cartoon drawing, discussion on honeybee harvesting, and brought in wildlife rockstars. Zane’s active participation at the library programs cost Adam O a few dollars during Alicia’s presentation. A free lunch program was made available through the whole summer with 600 lunches provided as of today and prepared by ARC Wayne. The children made visits to the Newark Farmer’s Market as well.
