Snapple Facts: Strange laws from the state of Texas

- In Austin TX, it is illegal to carry wire cutters in your pocket.
- It is illegal to eat your neighbors garbage
- Texas is a common law marriage state, which means you are considered legally married if the couple makes three public announcements that they’re married. Moreover, a couple can be considered legally married even if the other spouse isn’t present for the ceremony.
- In some cities it is required to purchase a $5.00 permit before walking around barefoot.
- El Paso has a law on the books requiring spittoons in church, assembly halls, hotels banks, stores, train depots, and saloons.
- Texas law prohibits shooting buffalo from the second story of a hotel
- In Texarkana it is only legal to ride your horse at night if it has tail lights.
- Borger, TX forbids the throwing of confetti and rubber balls in city limits.

- Inaugural Satellite Club Meeting will be Jan 15th at the Bowling Alley at 6:00pm. This is aimed primarily at younger members and prospective members who cannot make the weekly lunch meetings.

- Steve Taylor - he and Evie visited Tim and Anne Johnson in Montana - had a great time. He and his nephew went to the Buffalo Bills vs N.E. Patriots game in a box seat – the best way to watch a game ever!

Program: Open Meeting
- Scott Healy - update on Rotary International Foundation: YTD giving for our club as follows: Polio Plus - $3,200; Annual Fund - $7,250
- Wendy Hilberer - update on Rotary Salutes. Next meeting Friday, 1/12 at 9:00am at Erie Shore Landing. The event will be in March, date - TBD. We are saluting the area first responders. Please think about the department (police/fire/NAVA) that is closest to your home or business and be involved in thanking them.
- We received several thank you notes: from Ann Mills and Cindy Russell for Frank Russell for the poinsettia’s. Also one from Salvation Army for ringing bells for the red kettle drive.
- Update on upcoming programs: next week a presentation on the Wayne County Humane Society
- We said thank you to Kayleigh for all of her hard work in serving us during our lunch meetings
