Interact led us in an international trivia contest - a fun time and we learned some geography. Winners received some gifts from Poland.
Queen of Hearts. Jorge Bueso did not pick the Queen - the pot continues to grow.
Program: Malwina Plichta, our exchange student from Poland, gave the program.
Poland: - in middle east Europe, borders Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany and Russia
Language is one of the most difficult to learn. The ending of your last name will change with gender “ski” ending for males, “a” ending for females.
Polish food - “the best food in the world” - uses a wide range of vegetables, spices, mushrooms, and herbs. They frequently pork. They eat potatoes in most meals.
Polish Traditions — it is predominantly a Christian country. They favor colorful traditional clothing. Dingus day - the day after Easter - people celebrate with dancing. They celebrate spring by creating a doll and then throwing it into the water. They have beautiful folk art that is filled with color.
Poland has several favorite spots to visit: Sand Dunes, Castles, the ocean, Auschwitz museum, mountains … and many more. They have the largest castle in the world. Birthplace of Maria Sklodowska-Curie - first woman to receive the Noble Prize.
Malwina’s family: lives with mom, dad, and brother
Malwina heard about Rotary exchange through a friend of her parents. It sounded like an exciting experience. When she first heard she was coming to Newark she was excited to come to a smaller town and rural area.
She had a great time at the Taylor Swift concert!
