Last week we said goodbye to Peter Dohr, as he begins his retirement.
Steve Hallagan gave us words of inspiration, prayer for those in the midst of Hurricane Ian.

- Zone Training — Dave Hannah, Norma & Gary Reilly, Marc Kreuser attended in Toronto. It was a great training and worth the time to experience this sort of training. Marc encourages all of us to become involved at a higher level than just the club level.

Rotary Foundation for Rotary International vs Club Foundation
Rotary International Foundation will be a program in the future — today we discussed what our Club Foundation is.
Club Foundation:
- What is it: charitable giving vehicle, and is approved as a public charity
- Why: makes sense to enhance donations with tax benefits and allows us to obtain corporate or government grants, easy to donate to and easy to distribute from.
- Where is the money?: in our local bank account under Newark Rotary Foundation.
- Who controls money?: NrFBoard of Directors controls the investments and expenditures. It is a separate entity and therefore must have its own board. All members of Newark Rotary Club and members of the Newark Rotary Foundation
- Where does the money go?: distributions may be made to US Public Charities 501c(3) and qualified religious, educational, hospital or medical research and governmental entities - keeping everything local as much as possible
- Who can contribute?: and individual, group, or organization. We will not solicit separate donations from individual club members.
- Why would we contribute?: improve our club’s “Service Above Self”, tax benefits, and psychological benefits - it feels good to contribute
- How can you contribute?: cash, check, etc. just like RI Foundation
- What is the downside?: contributions are irrevocable, do not generate Paul Harris Fellow points.
- Questions: Club thanks Kevin for his work to bring this about.
- Dave Hannan - commented how this can dovetail with RI Foundation grants. It’s a tremendous opportunity to do good in the world.
- Linda Werts - we are often asked to participate as an International partner with global grants — is money available from our local foundation? If we donate to RI Foundation from local Foundation. However, our focus is intended to be local.
- Josh McCrossen - are funds kept completely separate i.e. Club Funds/Foundation Funds. Yes. We try to keep local fundraising in Rotary Club — solicit funds from outside entities, like Newark Family Fest, will be in Newark Rotary Foundation
- Scott Healy - this is year one, and will be a work in process as to how we distribute the funds.
- Steve Hallagan - can someone make restrictions, for example in estate planning. Yes
- Louis Rivera - is application process the same? Yes.
